Signing up and signing in#
The confirmation code does not arrive#
If the number is registered in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus or Uzbekistan, the code comes as a Telegram message rather than an SMS. This is the most common reason.
- Open Telegram.
- Start signing in to Link with the same phone number.
- Wait for the message with the code in Telegram — instead of an SMS.
- Enter the code in the Link app.
The code arrives in the official “Telegram” service chat with a blue check mark. Link has no Telegram bot. If a bot asks you to send it your phone number, those are scammers — send them nothing and report them in Telegram.
For other countries the code arrives as a normal SMS. If it does not: check that the number includes the country code, wait a minute or two, try another connection (mobile data instead of Wi-Fi), then request the code again.
It asks for a PIN during sign-up#
A PIN is no longer required, and the step can be skipped:
- On the PIN creation screen tap Skip at the bottom.
- Confirm — Disable PIN.
This does not affect your data; nothing will be lost.
How to change your phone number#
Settings → Account → Change phone number, then confirm the code sent to the new number. Your chats, contacts and follows stay where they are.
If your old number is already unavailable and you cannot sign in, write to support.
Account#
My account is blocked or restricted#
Usually this is not a fault but a measure taken for breaking the rules: a restriction on posting and commenting, or a block on the account. The reasons and durations are set out in the Terms of Use.
If you think the decision is wrong, write to support@linkmessenger.me and give the account’s phone number or @username. A person reviews the appeal, and you can appeal within 6 months.
How to get a blue check mark#
Send two files to support@linkmessenger.me:
- A photo of the main page of your passport — your first name, surname, photo and document number must be clearly visible.
- A selfie holding that same passport next to your face.
Important: after verification your profile name can no longer be changed — it is locked to the document. We use the documents only for the check, share them with no one and delete them within 30 days of the decision.
Changing your @username — why the 30-day wait#
A username that has been freed up cannot be taken straight away: it stays with its previous owner for 30 days. This is protection against impersonation — so that an account cannot be hijacked right after a name change. The period cannot be shortened.
How to delete your account#
Settings → Account → Delete account, then confirm with your phone number. There is more on the account deletion page: what is deleted, what remains and how long you have to change your mind.
How to delete a contact#
Link has no separate “Delete contact” button: the contact list comes from your phone’s address book. Delete the contact on the phone and it will disappear from Link too. If you simply want to stop talking to someone, open the chat and choose Block.
Privacy and security#
I cannot take a screenshot in the feed#
That is intentional. In the social part — the feed, posts, stories — screenshots are deliberately blocked so that other people’s photos and videos cannot be saved and posted elsewhere without the author’s consent.
If screenshots do not work anywhere at all, including in chats, check your own setting: Settings → Privacy → Screen security. It blocks screenshots throughout the app, and you are the one who turns it on.
The first message arrives as a “message request”#
That is how spam protection works: a message from someone you do not know goes into requests until you accept it. Mutual contacts and following bypass this.
Someone is asking me for another user’s data#
We do not disclose phone numbers or other account data to third parties under any circumstances — this rule protects you too.
If someone is bothering you, you can block and report them from the app. If the matter involves unlawful acts, you should go to law enforcement — we will respond to an official request.
How to hide that I viewed a profile#
The “Visitors and activity” section cannot be turned off. Hidden viewing is a separate Premium feature, not a switch in the settings.
Publications and stories#
Bringing back a hidden story#
The Stories tab → the Hidden stories section → press and hold the contact → Show story.
My publication has few views#
Recommendations are put together automatically and depend on how people react in the first few hours: whether they watch the video to the end, leave reactions, open the profile. Faking reactions and asking for likes in the comments work against you — we restrict accounts for that.
Premium and purchases#
How to cancel a subscription#
Cancel it where you signed up:
- iPhone and iPad — Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Link Messenger → “Cancel subscription”.
- Android — Google Play → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Link Messenger → “Cancel subscription”.
Premium keeps working until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
The payment will not go through#
Usually it is the payment method or the network. Check in order: whether a valid card is linked to the store, whether a VPN is on — try without it, switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or the other way round.
If that does not help, write to us and give your country, your operator or provider, and the exact text of the error.
The app#
The desktop version#
Windows — in the Microsoft Store. Mac — at desktop.linkmessenger.me, for Apple Silicon processors and macOS 12 or newer.
“Unknown error”, the profile will not open#
First update the app to the latest version and restart it. If that does not help, try a different network: some of these errors are caused by a provider blocking the connection to the server.
If the error persists, send us a debug log — it shows the cause:
- Open Settings → Help.
- Tap Send debug log.
- Copy the link the app gives you and send it to us.
The app freezes on the lock screen#
Update the app to the latest version. If it keeps happening, write to us and tell us: does it freeze on every launch or only sometimes, do you unlock with a fingerprint or the device passcode, and what is your phone model and system version.
